These easy spicy margaritas made with fresh orange juice. Super easy to make and crazy full of delicious flavor. They were amazing! Not too spicy, but the jalapeno's give them just the right amount of kick to counter the sweetness. You'll love them!
These margaritas are made with lots of fresh citruses. But rather than using tons of lime and lemon, you use tons of oranges and a wee bit of lime and lemon.
Classic margaritas (have you tried our popular homemade margarita mix?--so good!) are all about lime and lemon, we don't want to stray too far from that. Or, I'm thinking you can't really call this a margarita?
Can I use orange juice instead of fresh oranges in the margarita?
Yes, you can totally use orange juice instead of the fresh oranges, if you like. Each glass calls for ½ large orange which would be about 2 ounces of juice)
You can be brave and take a small taste of your jalapeno to judge the heat level it has. Or hey...live dangerously and put a few slices in and see! Don't put the seeds in, of course.
Put in less jalapeno or more depending on the heat tolerance you have. Us Swede's go with about ¼ of a jalapeno per glass because we have very little tolerance for spice.
Take a [easyazon_link identifier="B000GFP0PO" locale="US"]muddler[/easyazon_link] (or back of a wooden spoon) and squish the fruit and jalapeno together with the simple syrup. We want you to really squish this! Put your back into it.
Note: the canning jar you see is a cocktail [easyazon_link identifier="B01KN0PYOS" locale="US"]shaker[/easyazon_link] if that is throwing you off!
Add your ice and alcohol and get to shaking that up. This will take some time. We recommend you have a chat while you shake. And put a towel around the shaker to save your hands from freezing!
I hope you read through this post before starting because this is the part where you are reminded to rim the margarita glass. Sure, you could use salt, like usual. We would suggest mixing a bit of orange zest and red pepper into that salt, first. So, so good! And finishes the Orange Jalapeno margarita exactly how it should be...with a bit of spice!
I use a canning jar cocktail shaker that allows me to turn most any canning jar (that is the proper-sized on top) into a cocktail shaker.
