Sweet and Spicy Margaritas

These easy spicy margaritas made with fresh orange juice. Super easy to make and crazy full of delicious flavor. They are amazing! Not too spicy, but the jalapeños give them just the right amount of kick to counter the sweetness. You'll love them!

These margaritas are made with lots of fresh flavors and absolutely no purchased mixers. We have fresh orange juice and fresh lime juice all mixed up with a homemade simple syrup and silver tequila. You get a great spicy and sweet combo. Spicy jalapeno and sweet oranges. The best combo!

Classic margaritas (have you tried our popular homemade margarita mix?--so good!) are all about lime and tequila, we don't want to stray too far from that. Or, I'm thinking you can't really call this a margarita?

I hope you read through this post before starting because this is the part where you are reminded to rim the margarita glass. Sure, you could use traditional salt, like usual. We would suggest trying the spicy salt recipe. So, so good! And finishes the Jalapeño margarita exactly how it should be...with a bit of spice!

ingredients for spicy margaritas

Key Ingredients for this Spicy Jalapeño Margarita:

  • Tequila. Silver tequila works best for margaritas. Try mezcal for a fun twist!
  • Lime juice. Fresh limes are always tastiest, if possible.
  • Orange juice. For fun, try changing this up with grapefruit juice, sometime.
  • Jalapeño simple syrup. This jalapeño margarita packs a punch! It’s zesty and spicy in the best possible way. If you want to tone down the spiciness, use part jalapeño simple syrup and part traditional simple syrup.

To make the Jalapeño Simple Syrup:

  • Heat the water and sugar together.
  • Add the jalapeño and bring to a gentle simmer for about half an hour.
  • Let it cool down completely and pour into an airtight container.

Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.

  • In a pitcher combine the tequila, lime juice, orange juice and jalapeño simple syrup.
  • Add the ice, lime wedges and jalapeño slices and stir. Set aside.
