Pull up a chair. There's always room for one more.

I'm Janel - and I've spent over a decade making the case that the home cook in America is genuinely, quietly excellent. You probably already know what you're doing. You just haven't been told that enough.

A Little More About Me (and My Quirks)
My husband, two grown kids, and two spoiled rescue dogs are my world. I love wine, food, and entertaining—pretty much in that order.
Most days, you’ll find me working with coffee in hand, probably wearing yoga pants, and watching Say Yes to the Dress for the hundredth time. (True story: I warn everyone not to set drinks on the white rug, then do it myself.)

As the oldest of ten children, I’m bossy by nature, a bit of a rule-maker, and have mastered the art of finding the comfiest seat at any family gathering.

Your Stories

We are proud to be a part of your success!

I grew up the oldest of ten kids, which means I learned early that a good meal has to feed a crowd without drama, without a huge budget, and without anyone going home hungry. That’s still how I cook today.

I’ve spent a decade in the food blogging world — testing recipes, building community, and figuring out what actually works in a real kitchen. Not a TV kitchen, not a stylist’s kitchen. Yours. Mine. The one with the dish towel on the oven handle and something bubbling on the back burner.

Here’s what I know for certain: great meals don’t need to be fancy. Good food comes from using what you have, trusting yourself, and not apologizing for taking a shortcut when you need one. If it tastes good and brings people together — that’s the whole point.

My kitchen motto: If you can’t laugh at a kitchen fail, you’re not cooking enough.

What you’ll find here: Real recipes made with everyday ingredients. Budget-friendly ideas that actually taste like you tried. Shortcuts worth taking and a few worth skipping. Honest stories from a real kitchen — including the fails. And someone who genuinely believes you’re a better cook than you give yourself credit for.

Minnesota-based, rescue-dog-owned, perpetually in jeans. Come as you are.
