This recipe is for the traditional Grasshopper cocktail. We haven’t altered it, fancied it up, or anything. Just good old thin mint taste. Frankly, this is a cocktail you either love or you hate. We haven’t found too many in the middle on this one. Chances are good that if you like the thin mint cookies you will love this. Likewise, if you hate those little cookies you will hate this cocktail.
However, this is THE cocktail to make for any St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The color can’t be beat and is perfect for setting the mood. It is also a relatively inexpensive drink to make. Inexpensive drinks are great for parties, don’t you think?
The 3 ingredients are Creme de Cacao, Creme de Menthe, and whipping cream. Oh, and ice. Always ice with cocktails. Seriously though, do you always have to call for someone to pick up ice? We sure do!
The Creme de Cacao and Creme de Menthe is easily found at your local liquor store and often at your big grocery stores in the mixer aisles. You shouldn’t pay much over $15 a bottle for these brands. Completely up to you if you decide to buy the more expensive versions. Truly though, we haven’t found a great difference.
This cocktail is about as easy to remember as can be: equal parts of everything.
Grasshopper Cocktail Recipe:
- 2 ounces Creme de Cacao
- 2 ounces Creme de Menthe
- 2 ounces whipping cream
- Pour it all into a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice and shake for a couple of minutes.
- Serve in a martini glass and top with grated nutmeg or shaved chocolate.
