Air Fryer French Toast Sticks

These air fryer french toast sticks are one of my favorite brunch recipes. Using the air-fryer to fry them creates the perfect crusty outside and soft inside. They are so stinking pretty and easy that they appeal to my lazy Saturday morning soul as much as my brunch-loving soul.

French Toast sticks made in the Air Fryer

I am not much of a breakfast person even though I’ve heard time and again how good breakfast is for you and how you NEED to eat breakfast. I do. I eat breakfast. Things like oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, and all that good for you stuff. It’s simply for self-preservation and to ease my breakfast-hating soul.

But BRUNCH…brunch is a concept that I am wholeheartedly behind. 100%. I truly do adore breakfast foods in all varieties but NOT at 6am in the morning. Come later in the day and if I see a waffle or french toast I will hunt you down, tackle you, and eat all the food. No apologies. Do NOT get between me and my breakfast food after 9am!

ingredients for French Toast sticks in the air fryer

Key Ingredients for Air Fryer French Toast Sticks:

  • Bread. You can use any bread of choice, a thick cut texas style toast makes nice big sticks, but any loaf of bread is fine
  • Eggs. I used whole eggs, but eggs whites might work as well.
  • Heavy cream. You could use skim milk or even a nut milk, if needed. Heavy cream makes these a bit more decadent.
  • Brown sugar. Brown sugar adds to the caramel flavor but feel free to use white sugar if you want
  • Butter. Use the real stuff, not margarine!

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast Sticks:

  • Combine the eggs, heavy cream, cinnamon, brown sugar and melted butter and whisk.
  • Dip the bread pieces in the batter and flip over to coat.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with non stick cooking spray.
  • Place the dipped French toast in the basket, making sure they do not touch.
  • Place the basket in the air fryer and set at 375° and fry for 3 minutes.
  • Flip the toast over and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Fry an additional 3 minutes.
  • Repeat until all the pieces have been fried.

Tips for Air Fryer French Toast Sticks:

  • Spray the air fryer pan before placing the French toast sticks in.  Then spray the French toast sticks when you flip them over. This reduces any chance of sticking AND gets them nice and crisp.
  • You can cut off the crusts of the bread or leave them on depending on what your family likes.
  • For best results, don’t overcrowd the air fryer.
  • These French toast sticks cook up quick and make a great breakfast or snack.  Serve them with berries and syrup or honey.
  • Try using banana bread or another specialty bread for a fun and delicious twist!
  • Slice your bread into sticks and then let them dry out overnight. Drying out the bread gives room for the egg mixture to moisten the bread and do it’s thing and create extra crispy sticks!
  • Add a dash of Triple Sec to your batter–> it’s amazing!

Store/Freeze:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze french toast sticks when cooled for up to 1 month. Heat them in the air fryer or the stove to retain their crispiness.
