3 ingredient Peanut Butter Rice Krispies

Could there a treat more classic than Rice Krispie treats? Probably not. They are the standard treat for potlucks, after school treats, birthday parties, and more…they are classics! These Peanut Butter Rice Krispies treats are only 3 ingredients and one of the fastest, and tastiest versions of this recipe. Try adding in nuts, dried fruits, and mini chocolate chips to give this easy recipe an upgrade.

I’ve always loved Rice Krispie treats, in any flavor combo. There is something about them that is fun, tasty, and easy. They are perfect for busy moms and kids, alike.

This peanut butter version is my fave. I feel like adding the peanut butter without the butter pumps up the nutrition, a bit. And when I’m really feeling ambitious, I”ll add chocolate chips and a chocolate frosting. <— that is the ultimate combo! Of course, that combo does little for the nutrition factor :). But sooooo good!

Give this Peanut Butter Rice Krispie treats recipe a try. You’ll love this easy and fast version and I KNOW you’ll love including add-ins your family will get excited for.

Some ideas for add-ins:

  • dried fruits
  • nuts
  • chocolate chips
  • candies
  • sea salt
  • caramel bits
  • granola
  • sprinkles

  • 5 cups puffed rice cereal
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup peanuts optional!
Check out our Kitchen Reference Guide for help with unfamiliar terms.

Instructions

  • Melt the mixture until smooth.
  • Add in the cereal and peanuts, stirring until combined.
  • Press into a greased 9x13 pan.
  • Let cool, then enjoy.

Notes

Melting your peanut butter and marshmallows works both in the microwave and on the stove. Just make sure you choose a bowl that is big enough to fit all the ingredients in the end!
Also, greasing your pot/bowl before putting your peanut butter in will help prevent sticking.

  1. Tonya, thanks for commenting and reminding us that store-bought mallows have gelatin. We often make homemade mallows, and forget that store bought ones are filled with all sorts of things you wouldn’t expect (if we read the label…we wouldn’t have had this problem. DUH!). We definitely need to be more diligent in making sure our titles are accurate. We’ve taken this post down until we can make these truly vegan, or change the language.

And we had no idea about white sugar! We have a few vegans in our lives, but none of them are as strict as keeping out white sugar. Thank you so much for letting us know!!! And for politely letting us know our error! It really is appreciated.

  2. Thank you for reminding us of that! We’ve taken this post down to do some re-working, either to make it truly vegan or change the language. Thanks!

  3. These sound delicious! Just an FYI…marshmallows have gelatin in them. This is an animal based product too :(

  4. Vegans don’t consume ANY type of animal product or by product. And the list is much more extensive than most people realize. Marshmallows are not vegan if they contain gelatin (an animal by product). Vegan marshmallows are made using a fruit pectin or agar. Additionally most vegans avoid any products that use white sugar because it is purified using bone char–which marshmallows and possibly the peanut butter could contain.

Although I think these sound delicious and would definitely try them since I am not vegan nor vegetarian.
