Fake Out Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup (April Fool’s Day)

A fun and easy April Fool’s prank to pull on the kids. Sweet food disguised as grilled cheese and tomato soup!

We do April Fool’s in this house long before April 1st and long after. It eventually gets old and annoying. You can only get sprayed by the faucet so many times before you just want to scream.

But, I have my own little fake-out’s that I use on the kids for April Fool’s Day. This “grilled cheese” is one of my favorites. So easy to make and looks real enough to fool them. If you missed the “Gotcha” Spaghetti and Meatballs from last week, check that out. That’s another favorite!

Ingredients:

Pound cake
White frosting
Yellow food coloring
Strawberry jelly
cinnamon

Instructions:

Cut the pound cake in half.

Cut the pound cake the long way so it looks the most similar to real bread.

Mix some of the frosting with the yellow food coloring until you get a nice “cheesy” color :). Cheesy…ha!

Smother your “cheese” between your slices…

Rub some cinnamon into the tops of the bread to give it that “toasted” look. Cut the sandwich in half and serve with “tomato soup”. Ha!
P.S. for the tomato soup mix a bit of strawberry jam and water (add food coloring, if needed) until it has the right color and texture. It won’t be perfect…just close.

  1. I don’t mind. You got things to do. Do them. But yeah…this one was worth coming out for!

  2. It is nicer that is for sure! Although, I think my 9 year old isn’t over the saran wrap on the toilet prank. Even though it never works for him…we all catch it!

  3. Haha! So fun! I don’t think I would complain about being faked out if it turned out I was really eating dessert.;)

That is great, and yet, somehow nicer than putting saran wrap on the toilet…
