Truthfully, my family thinks the gluten-free recipe is the BEST peanut butter cookie recipe there is. But for those of you that prefer a classic...this is the best. This is the recipe you will use again and again for the classic peanut butter cookies. In this cookie recipe I prefer to use honey instead of brown sugar for a nice change. Don't be fooled, subbing out honey does not make it healthy by any means. But it gives it a sweetness that is more gentle than the processed sugar. Feel free to use the more traditional brown sugar if that is what you have or prefer.

  • 1 cup soft butter
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar or I use ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour

  • Beat butter, peanut butter and sugars together.
  • Add baking soda and baking powder and beat again.
  • Add egg and vanilla and beat again until combined.
  • Add flour and beat until combined (you may end up having to use a wooden spoon for the final stir)
  • Drop a tablespoon about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8 minutes at 375 degrees.


If you like, roll the dough into balls and roll the balls in sugar.
or... press the dropped dough with a fork dipped in sugar.

You can make the dough a bit more crunchy and crinkly, perfect for the peanut butter kiss cookies, by using shortening instead of butter.
