Equipment

  • 1 CrockPot

Ingredients

  • One bottle fruity full-bodied wine (we used Malbec)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 3 allspice berries optional
  • 8 cloves
  • 1/2 c. brandy
  • 1 orange
  • sugar

Instructions

CrockPot Method

  • Combine the wine, spices, and brandy in a slow cooker. It's best if you can put the spices in a cheese cloth or tea bag, otherwise you can scoop them out later.
  • Cut the orange in half. Add the juice of one half, cut the remaining half in slices and add to CrockPot.
  • Cook in slow cooker on low until warm. Add sugar to taste (some wines are sweeter than others, we added 2 tbsp).
  • Remove spices and oranges. Or, scoop some wine out as you drink it and let the remaining wine get even more spiced 🙂

Stove Top Method

  • Combine the wine, spices, and brandy in a heavy, medium saucepan. It's best if you can put the spices in a cheese cloth or tea bag, otherwise you can scoop them out later.
  • Cut the orange in half. Add the juice of one half, cut the remaining half in slices and add to the pot.
  • Cook on medium heat on low until warm. You do NOT want to let it boil (you'll burn off the alcohol). Cover and let simmer (don't let it boil) until ready to serve.
  • Remove spices and oranges. Or, scoop some wine out as you drink it and let the remaining wine get even more spiced 🙂
