It’s almost here!! Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming…family is coming, family is coming! Gulp.
If you are like me, you are about to be descended upon in one fashion or another for Christmas. It’s wonderful. Noisy. Messy. And sometimes a bit overwhelming. Can I let you in on a wee little secret? shhhh. Bed Bath & Beyond has a Holiday site … Holiday Your Way… full of recipes, help, and tips for the holidays that will be your best friend that you can turn to to make everything go smoothly.
As many of you know, we are big coffee drinkers here in NellieBellie land. And, my husband’s coffee is famous the world around (truly….not even joking…it is!). So, hosting a coffee bar is one of the Holiday Entertaining ideas that I ate up, spat out, and planned. It will be happening Christmas morning!! A tiny little coffee bar in my tiny little apartment will have BIG ooh’s and aah’s from my family. *sigh*. It really is the little things! And, let’s be real…sometimes we only have time for the little things! Does our family care if that’s all we manage? No. They really don’t. Well, maybe they do. But, they shouldn’t. I don’t ask.
When you are in a small kitchen you have to get creative and thoughtful about cooking for guests. We’ll have an extra 2-4 guests in our little apartment over Christmas. And, those few people make a big difference in my cooking! I love this recipe for baked french toast from the Holiday Recipes. Recipes that only use one dish, a crock-pot, or save space in another way are brilliant for me! I’ll be mixing up a batch of this with our Coffee Bar. Won’t that be fantastic? Seriously, our Christmas morning will be the best ever! You are invited too…here’s the address…

I’m not going to have a dirty house for guests, no way! But, you will not find me doing a thorough cleaning, either. I save my deep cleaning for AFTER the guests leave. Because, I know and you know, cleaning the house only lasts for a few minutes after the first guests arrive. The second and third guests will never see the clean house, anyways. And, no matter how wonderful and tidy your guests are…you always have to clean. So, I do a quick clean before guests and then don’t stress. The end.
Merry Christmas to you! I hope your holidays are wonderful! Be sure to visit Holiday Your Way to check out tips, recipes, and more that might be just what you need to help you this holiday season!
If you can’t read between the lines…this post is an encouragement to you to host your holiday event in the way that works for you! Don’t do what you don’t enjoy. Clean if you want, cook if you want, decorate if you want. And don’t do the rest. And, if you feel badly or guilty….just stop it. People are what matter…not the stuff. So, you go with your people loving self and be awesome!
Our tips for the holidays: go enjoy people!
