We recently had the chance to meet up with a blogger friend at Psycho Suzies, a tiki bar in the Twin Cities. We had a wonderful time chatting with her and having the rare opportunity to pick the brain of a fellow website owner. But we also used the opportunity as a chance to visit this well-known place and get our own impressions of it. And we want to share with you!
Let’s start with the best: atmosphere.
Did you see the mustache cup on the table? Or notice that we were sitting outdoors? Or that our tator tots were served in a wooden bowl? Well, now you know. This place is pretty adorable. In the summer, they have a HUGE patio that overlooks the river, and it is a wonderful place to be on a nice day. They really do a good job of playing up the fact that they are a tiki bar, and have wonderful tiki touches throughout the place. We can absolutely imagine ourselves going out for drinks with a big group of women and having a blast here! Well done there Psycho Suzies!
Next up: food.
The food was good. They had some interesting flavor combinations that actually worked together really well. They didn’t have our absolute favorite food ever, but we have ridiculously high standards. We live in Stillwater, after all.
But the tots. Oh, the tots.
The tator tots were AMAZING! Seriously good. Just enough spice and crunch, and paired with a delicious dressing..
Can you tell we’re Minnesotans???
We love our tots.
Sorry Psycho Suzies, you get a big fat zero on this one. Maybe it was a bad day, and you were busier than expected and someone was sick; we know stuff like that happens. And we hope that is the case.
Because our service was horrible.
We kind of wandered into the restaurant…someone told us we could sit out on the patio, but we didn’t know where that was. No one helped us find it. Once we found a table outside, no one really even noticed we existed for about 20 minutes. And then everything was really slow after that.
It was another long wait for our drinks.
And then again for our meal. It was bad. It was a really good thing we planned on a long lunch to chat, because otherwise we would have had to leave before we got our food.
Our thoughts on Psycho Suzies? It’d be a great place to bring a bunch of girls for an evening out, but only if you’ve got plenty of time.
A place we like more: Barbette’s. They’re a triple threat.
