only 3 ingredients to make this creamy and refreshing French Soda

It's just three ingredients, ones we usually have on hand or can easily grab with our groceries, and naturally creates something of its own "whipped cream" when mixed together. The best part is we use natural flavors to create this yummy treat!

What is the difference between Italian Soda and French Soda?

French soda and Italian soda are pretty much the same thing except that French soda (also called Italian cream soda (simply sparkling water with flavored syrup and ice) adds half-and-half.

Key Ingredients in this Lime Coconut French Soda:

  • Lime juice.
  • Carbonated Water. Anything bubbly will work just fine. Coconut LaCroix is a favorite.
  • Cream of coconut. See below for information about cream of coconut.

Where can I get coconut cream?

You have two options that work equally well...

  1. Grab coconut milk (full-fat) from the ethnic aisle in your grocery store and use the thick part that settles to the top. We prefer this method because it keeps the sugar content down.
  2. Head to the liquor section and use the Coco Real that you find in the mixers, there. This has sweetener added and sometimes a good option if you need the extra sweetness.

How to Make French Soda:

  • Add the coconut cream and lime juice to the glass.
  • Mix together with a fork.
  • Pour cold seltzer water over the top until the glass is filled.
  • Top with shredded coconut.
  • If you need a bit more sweetness, stir in a bit of cane sugar.

Flavor Adaptions to try:

  • Try changing up the lime juice with another favorite flavor like cherry grenadine, orange juice, raspberry, or even coffee. Torani makes some good flavors to try!
  • Use lemon-lime flavored soda and fresh mint to create a mint lemonade flavor.
  • Try adding almond extract or vanilla extract for a more savory version.
  • Looking for a caffeine boost? Skip the carbonated water in favor of a clear soda.

    1. You know, I'm not sure. I've never made it that way and every time I have made it it has been drank within minutes :). I would try making a glass and leaving it for a few hours to see what it does. Let me know if you do use it and how it works...good luck!

  1. Carbonated water?? Soda water? Mineral water? Any carbonated water (or I guess you could use soda- maybe orange soda with the lime would be good too???

  2. By "cream of coconut," do you mean the sweetened stuff like Coco Lopez or Coco Real, sold near the cocktail mixes, or the unsweetened canned one?

  3. I love the look of the "foam" on top - looks like whipped cream with coconut sprinkled on top. What is it really, and how do I get that on top of mine? This looks wonderful, can't wait to fix one. Love the straw, too!

    1. Robin, the foam is actually just what happens naturally when you make this drink. Mix the coconut cream and lime juice together first, then pour in that carbonation and it will naturally look like that. No work necessary!

    1. Just a simple stir. I like to stir the coconut and lime together and then add the soda. The soda will get all bubbly...fair warning :). Kids love that!
