Do you remember the desktop sandbox stress relievers that were basically mini kid sandboxes? The idea was that when you were stressed you could rake some sand into shapes or designs and feel better? I decided it needed to come back.
In a new and improved version…
Can you spot the improvements? I’ll give you a hint….
Levi contributed to this project. I was planning a simple little sandbox with just a rake. Similar to the old school stress relievers.
Levi got involved.
He adopted the desktop sandbox. And boy oh boy did he have a good time! And I realized that my great idea was infinitely better with the help of my 10 year old. So, let me tell you…this is kid friendly. He loved this little box!! Loved! Too bad it’s headed to my brother as a housewarming gift (yes, we are a strange family)…complete with Sponge Bob and tractor in tow.
- hinged box (this basic version was from Michaels)
- sand ( mine was purchased at Home Depot)
- toys. ( I picked up my tractor from our local farming store)
- If your box is fairly tight you can just use a bit of tape to seal wherever has potential leakage. If needed, apply a bead of hot glue or Elmers glue to seal the seams
- dump in sand.
- put in toys.
I plan on making a few of these this Christmas for some of the little boys in our life. It’s such a simple, yet cute project! And this isn’t just for little boys!! I bet your co-worker or college student would love to have a mini desktop sandbox! Who wouldn’t?
Like this desktop sandbox? You will probably also like our fake-a-fish, our LEGO figure display, or even our mini bow and arrow.
