Nellie has a cabin up North in Wisconsin. Those of you who’ve been around since the beginning of this site know that it used to be their full-time home. But, now that they’re based on the Minnesota side of the river, Wisconsin is their camping space. So now that summer is coming, Nellie’s family is making a lot more trips up there. And, the little town of Taylors Falls is right on the way. Which is super convenient, because this little beauty, Coffee Talk, sits at a perfect stopping-off place for when driving has gotten just a wee bit too long for Levi.

Coffee shops in little houses used to be a lot more common, but they’re getting harder and harder to find. Even harder to find is a little adorable shop like this one, that actually makes great coffee drinks. Coffee Talk is located right on the downtown road, towards the end of the road when you’re about to turn around ’cause you think you’ve missed it. Or, right before the Drive-Inn (another great place to check-out!)
This shop has a neighborhood feel that you’ll love. It’s common to walk in to games of Skip-Bo being played by tables of women. An adorable poodle is often there with his (or her?) owner, lounging under the tables. And the owners have a ton of fun chatting back and forth with the guests. You always enter and feel as if you’ve become part of an experience.
And it’s a shop that takes advantage of their location. Many shops close off the upstairs, but this one encourages people to wander up and take in the view. The stairs are a bit steep, so be careful with that, but you will be pleased with the end result. The furniture upstairs is all mismatched, and the view from any window is absolutely spectacular. And we still haven’t gotten to the best part!
The coffee! If you’re lucky enough to go to Coffee Talk when the owners are manning the store, which is actually pretty often, you’ll want to order a drink that has froth. Because the owners make the best froth we’ve ever had. You’ll be tempted to ask for a cup of froth straight-up.
And they are incredibly friendly and kind. Not just the owners. Everyone they hire is amazing. You’ll want to stop by every time you head up that way, just for a chance to chat with them and get a bit of that perfect foam.
They open at 7am, 7 days a week, year round.
Warning: they only accept cash and do not have an ATM. They’re super great about it, and sometimes even let you mail them money later (what!), but it’s just easiest to bring cash with you.
