You can tell by the look on Nellie’s face what we thought of this cute little french patisserie on Grand Avenue. Chez Arnaud may be little and unassuming, but their pastries and coffee put big smiles on our faces. We loved it. We’ll come back to that later.
Entering the shop we were disappointed…
It doesn’t look French. I don’t know what exactly French is supposed to be, but we were expecting bright colors and “ooh, la la” and all that. You know? But it’s a simple, clear-cut little shop with whites and blacks. Pretty boring actually. Nothing wrong with it…just dull.
And when we looked into the display case we were suspicious. Everything was stunning to look at. And you know what that usually means? It came from a box. You know, the beautiful layers were all premade and just put together at the shop? I mean, how else do you get something like my 3 Chocolate Dessert of Awesome to look so adorable?
Do you see that? Jeez. Must come from a box.
See…the baker was there. The owner, the man behind the scenes…and we met him. And he recommended this deathly dessert as one of his personal favorites. And when the baker makes a recommendation…you take it. And I was lucky I did. Though Nellie’s apple turnover was just as good. I was lucky to get a bite…it went fast.
And Nathan had a lavender honey sweet roll I will be going back for.
And Nellie had a pistachio latte with perfect foam.
And even my boring cup of coffee was perfectly made.
So, even though we found the environment to be lacking a little…we will be going back to this place any time we are remotely in the area.
