Teen’s bedroom

By  |

This article is OLD.  The pictures are not so good…but we do think that the information and helpful tips on decorating a teen room are still relevant.  So we’ve left the article here.

NellieBellie: teen vintage bedroom

Those are the curtains that were used for blackmail to get the teenage girl to clean this room well enough to take photos.  Aren’t they dramatic!  Lovely!  I have a point and shoot camera which works great, but makes it difficult to get wide shots of a room.

This is as good as it gets.
But, isn’t that room dreamy!

The chandelier is turquoise. And vintage.  The chest….from Sweden. On the boat over. Eons ago.  Vintage headboard.
Vintage rollerskates.  Vintage suitcase.  Vintage, vintage, everything is vintage.  My girl LOVES vintage. Sigh…that makes me happy!

NellieBellie:teen bedroom antique turqoise headboard

This headboard had massive water damage and couldn’t be salvaged.  I almost tossed it.  Luckily, it crossed my mind to just paint it.  SO glad I did!!  And added the canopy over it for more drama.  A cute swinging office lamp was added (of course the shade was changed out)

NellieBellie:teen bedroom dresser

My girl loves photography and especially vintage cameras!  I need to work out something over here in this corner for display.  But, for right now it’s your typical hodpodge of displayed fun.  Sitting atop my Great Grandmother’s dresser.
So pretty!

NellieBellie: teen bedroom stuff wall

This is the “stuff wall”.  I covered a large chunk with chalkboard paint and designated it the ONLY place for graffiti.
Added twinkle lights.  And instructions to keep all posters and such on THIS corner.  Betty Blue and Washington look might fine in this corner holding  Katie’s vintage typewriter!

NellieBEllie: pants hangars to hang art

Katie very much wants to go to London.  Last year she was given these maps of London as a gift.  A fun, pretty reminder of her goal!

There you have it…another room of my house!  My teen daughter’s room, no less!  That should be worth oodles, don’t you think??

If you have a teenager…do you force them to clean their room?
Do you let it be?
Or somewhere inbetween?

Don’t feel bad for Levi.  His room got redone in Jan 2013 and looks pretty darn awesome!
See it here!

That room is sooooo cool! It’s awesome that she loves vintage, just like her mama :) I’m especially in love with the headboard…I think back to stuff I gave away/sold/tossed back before blogging and shudder :( Glad you saved that!

My kids always had to clean their rooms too. They knew if I cleaned it, stuff would be disposed of. Oldest daughter had a corner in her room to hang all the paraphernalia girls like to hang.

I just finished the 10 year old’s room and it was in a state of ‘clean’ a couple days ago and also decided to take pictures at that time before it was messy again…I have yet to take pictures of my kitchen though (remodeled 3 years ago — so not sure my kids are worse than I am) — anyhow, lovely room! Fun headboard, so glad you didn’t throw it out! and chalkboard idea for creative tagging..great idea!

Yes…the kitchen is another story. Never quite clean, is it??
Thanks! the chalkboard is a favorite part of that room…her friends are forever leaving notes and such.
Thanks for stopping by-it was fun hearing from you!

Looks great! :) Love the headboard, you picked a beautiful color to paint it, glad you saved it. I’m a big lover of vintage, what an awesome space for Katie, hopefully she’ll want to keep it clean for a few hours, I mean days! Good luck with that. It’s a losing battle here and she’s only 11.

It’s hopeless keeping it clean. She isn’t terrible, terrible. But…argh. I don’t fight it much…there are other battles more important. As long as animals aren’t living in there and we can walk in case of a fire…it’s good.
