We were on the way to another meeting, and our route took us right past this place; Spyhouse coffee. We’d heard some good things about them, but never actually took the time to drive all the way to one of their locations and check them out.
See, Spyhouse Coffee is apparently listed as one of the Top 20 Coffee Shops in the USA. And that’s great.
But we’re skeptics. When we hear that somewhere is supposed to be the best of the best, we often find that it is overcrowded and talked up much more than it should be. You know, the way a good movie can be ruined if everyone tells you how amazing it is before you go see it. We didn’t want to experience that let-down with Spyhouse Coffee.
Luckily, we didn’t. They really are that fantastic. You can see from their menu alone that something is special about them. We all tried their trademark drinks, and we were not disappointed. Their baristas are fantastic, and know exactly what they need to do to make the best espresso, foam, and even do fun designs on top of the drinks. None of this “lets-just-pour-the-milk-in-the-cup-and-forget-that-froth-should-go-last-and-be-perfect”…no sir.
Their drinks are perfection.
Lastly, they have a great space. We were at the Spyhouse Coffee on Broadway, and their other location might look different, but this one was fabulous. Unlike many coffee stops that are tiny and squished, Spyhouse Coffee is quite expansive. They have a roaster right in the store, and plenty of seating indoors and outdoors for people who want to stay. And, far from feeling cold and industrial (as large spaces can often be), Spyhouse Coffee has filled the store with rustic wood and slate. Exactly our kind of place.
So, if you’re in the Twin Cities and looking for a coffee shop to call your own, Spyhouse Coffee is definitely worth a look.
I recommend the Mata Hari…just sayin’
