smoke & mirrors…Family tree

A little bit of hand waving, exit showing, and oxygen masks needs to happen quickly…

1. Um…yeah, I am in the top 15 over at American Crafters. Yeah, I don’t know how it happened. They’ll figure it out and ask me to leave soon.
But until then I am charged with the challenge of making a craft from hardware store goodies by Thursday. Thursday? Ack!
This weekend is voting…please pretend you think I am great and go vote for me. Or just look and leave. Whatever. And never fear…I will stick the link in your face multiple times. Cause I am great.

2. I was having trouble with my feeder (for non bloggers…the program that sends my posts to you via e-mail or reader or whatever) and my guest blogger (my sister) yesterday so totally did not get the props deserved. Be sure to stop by and read her post from yesterday…it’s witty and fun. “How to travel like a Vegas Show girl”

Okay…time for take-off….

for more info on this series go HERE

I saw this in an edition of Martha Stewart Living…
(Nope, can’t remember which issue…but you could find it on her website I am sure)

Can we take note of the cost of those materials.
$247.00
Yep…two hundred, forty-seven dollars.
Or another way…a crazy amount of money.

Here’s mine…

$4.99 for the glass vase on top. From Walmart.
that’s all.

Here’s how…

Truth be told I had a camera glitch as I was into this project (turns out I had to slide a silly little button on the side of my memory card…who knew?) so I was partly into this project before I started taking pictures.

Poster board, wood grain paper, Mod Podge, and craft knife make this…

Cut that poster board into a circle, and then Mod Podge the paper onto it. I added that circle for the glass to rest in and to give it more authenticity.

For the tree I took multiple sticks, hot glued them to form a tree, and then spray painted the whole sucker.

You’ll get something like this…

Now for the fun part.
Adding your personalization.
I used some paper labels and trinkets I had for scrap booking…

Then I hot glued those suckers on…

It turned out great!
It sits proudly on my little yellow dresser.
Not as graceful as Martha’s, not as sophisticated.
But…still whimsical, sweet, and fun!

Whatcha think? Kinda cute? Never mind…I like it.

See you around!
