important matters are afoot!

By  |

I’m supposed to be writing the Dr. Nellie post today.

Instead I’m doing this…

watching my kids decorate for Christmas.

however they want to.

without my “input”.

In fact, I was given the task of threading the Fruit Loop garland.
I had forgotten what a pain those are to do.
And I bet they don’t survive the night.
That darn dog thought they were tasty.

deer hunting in Wi is coming up.
thus the orange hat.
in the middle of the day.

we took a trip to Goodwill last week for sweaters.

see, we were in Urban Outfitters shopping for sweaters.

we looked at the current styles and realized we had seen them elsewhere.

tip of the day: ugly sweaters are in! go to the thrift store for the best vintage looks!

I learned something today.

you must always check the integrity of the fake branches.
from underneath the fake tree.
by looking up.

who knew??

I guess the tree passed the test.
he was pleased with what he found.

and they were allowed to continue.

it was touch and go for a while there!

as they were putting up decorations I had an aha moment.

Christmas cards!!

I had been planning an elaborate set-up for photo’s.

yeah, it took me several of these shots to realize I might have something right here.

this will be this year’s Christmas photo…

christmas photo 2012 v.2

I could just gobble them up…they are so darn cute!

                                      it’s a crime.

back to work.

why have I needed to control this?

and have it a certain way?

they placed…

and wound….

they thought…

and decided…

And then ended the day with some of Daddy’s cocoa…

truth be told,  there is easily another day of decorating they have planned.
and buckets of “stuff” all over the house.

but, it’s worth it.
I’m going to do it again tomorrow.
I’ll be making more of those darn fruit loop garlands.
and stringing popcorn.
tying candy canes.
and making a kissing ball.

I’ll probably ignore most of the laundry.
for sure the pile to be put away.
and gosh that floor is dirty.
and is going to stay that way a bit longer.

more important matters are afoot!

Dr. Nellie will be back.
For right now….more important matters are afoot!

I love that you are letting them dong their thing. That’s what Christmas should be all about. Best mom award for Nellie Bellie!!!

Looks great Janel! This will be a very memorable Christmas for your kids and for you :) I love the candid photos idea… SO much better than the fight to get everyone looking “perfect”. Might have to copy that one!

Brilliant. You know, I have not been “in the mood” to decorate yet this year. I thought I was, but it was a false alarm! LOL. Seeing this is wonderful. So gald you are enjoying the kids and your time together. Austin is 16 now, and it does not seem that long ago that we were making paper chains for the tree. Love your candid shots and this years Xmas card :)))

      thanks Shannon!!
I’m not interested in decorating this year either.
Thank goodness the kids are so badly wanting to do it this year!
They are enjoying the freedom to just do it how they like.

      Thanks much!!

How fun, Janel! It looks like y’all had a fantastic time!!! Thanks for bringing a smile to my face this morning! We’re doing something a little different this year too… Do y’all have “ditch trees” in WI? The little evergreens that grow wild in the ditch? We have those here and I’ve asked Scott to cut one down and bring it home for the kids to decorate. I see popcorn and cheerio garlands in my future. LOL! So glad you had such a fantastic time with your family. Looks like y’all had a blast!

Truth be told we often get trees from our backyard.
This year the kids wanted to do the fake one. So, we let them.
      and they decorated it themselves.
It looks like my Christmas decorations just exploded.
You know how you don’t use everything.
      they did.
      It’s so great!
