Holiday parties are known for their festive appetizers and snacks, just like hostesses are known for their fancy tricks in the kitchen and loads of free time to make all of these great party snacks in advance… Yeah, RIGHT!
We aren’t going to win any cook of the year awards for these little homemade pesto pizza Christmas trees, I can promise you. But we WILL win for cute, tasty, and easy pizza appetizers, and that is definitely something that we can appreciate in our busy lives! A huge bonus to this recipe is that making them couldn’t be easier and it’s a fantastic little recipe to get your kids in the kitchen!
So, for your next holiday party, bust out the pizza dough and pesto and whip these cute little snacks together for your guests. You’ll be a great hostess and still have time to hang out and enjoy your party! (Look for the printable recipe card at the end of this post!)
Here’s What You’ll Need:
These little appetizers are made out of 3 simple ingredients…
- Pre-made crescent or pizza dough.
- Pesto. (I use my homemade spinach pesto but feel free to buy your fave.)
- Shredded cheese. (Any variety works. Use your favorite.)
Step 1. Cut out the dough.
Use the Christmas tree cookie cutter to cut out the tree shapes and place them on a baking sheet. To get as many trees as you can, use the extra dough by rolling it out and cutting more trees!
Step 2. Spread the pesto on the cut dough & sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
You can use whatever kind of cheese you’d like. We like classic pizza cheese (mozzarella) for this recipe, but don’t hesitate to try out different varieties to add some flair to your pizza appetizers!
Step 3. Bake according to dough directions.
Now, you could take this a step further and use little pepperonis, olives, colored cheese, peppers, etc to “decorate” the tree or create a star on top. That would be the cutest!!! But that’s a completely optional step, if you really want to impress your holiday party guests.
These homemade pesto pizza Christmas trees are super easy to make – and look at how adorable they are! Again, we aren’t promising any awards in Martha’s kitchen for these mini pizza appetizers…but unless Martha is your party guest, we aren’t so concerned. I know my family and friends would LOVE to find these pesto Christmas trees on the table, and that’s what really counts!
