The bookcase that was a headboard.

This is the story of a sad little headboard.
Actually it’s a large headboard.
A nasty large headboard.
But, Nate found it for me on the side of the road for…free!
He’s a keeper.
When I saw it I knew it really wanted to be a bookcase for my office.
And hold random pretty junk.

This is the before shot…

Please don’t tell me you haven’t seen one of these.
I bet you own 5. All by yourself.
Well…no worries.
I have the cure for the ugly headboard.
Turn it into this..

Yes. It’s the same ugly piece of junk.
Isn’t she lovely now.

It’s really quite easy peasy to do this. I’ll show you how.
Cause I am nice like that. And you’ll send me cookies.

First up you need to spray the mirror with some sort of spray paint.
Any kind pretty much will do. I just used flat black.
This is so the paint has something to stick too.

Cut 2 boards to the width of your shelf.
We just screwed those onto the underside of the silly little ones.
You probably don’t want to stack heavy bricks on the shelf. It won’t hold.

Then we added a simple wood divider to both sides.

I drilled holes into the bottom shelf and added pieces of bamboo for a mail divider.
I simply filled the holes with gorilla glue and stuck the bamboo in.
It works great!

Paint the whole thing and you are good to go!

I recommend adding molding or something decorative to the edges of the shelves
to hide the fact that those shelves were screwed the the underside.
I used a roll of decorative tape. Nothing fancy.
But, it’s effective for now until I think of something even more clever.

I think it’s looking mighty fine in my office space…don’t you!
I filled it with random stuff so I could get a picture of it for you.

  1. Shelves of any kind are necessary, and you’ve gone and made them cute too! I see from the photo your page wall – love that as well!

  2. I can’t believe how great this is! Awesome redo. Pinning you from Saturday’s pinning party.
