Event 1—Linky Party (and my living room reveal)

In keeping with decorating week I upped my game and tackled my living room.
Since I am hosting this event I decided a challenge was in order.
This room has been in process for…years!
And many projects over the last few months have been with this makeover in mind.

So, I channeled my guest experts…5 days, 5 ways, Eclectically Vintage, and
The DIY Showoff …and set off to finish it.

I’m a picture playbook kind of person…so here we go!

Here are some pictures of what I started with…

There is nothing wrong with these…they are fine.
But… this is the Olympics!!!

I already had a nice beige on the walls. This color turns with the lighting, yellow
and sometimes white.
I bought slipcovers from SureFit for $150 or something. It was a great buy!! The couches we had were in great shape, just dark!
There is that great area rug that that I gave the tutorial for…$20. Love that!
I kept the curtains and “curtain rods” that were there…I love them!

I built this coffee table out of 2 pallets and some large tiles. I gave it a wash with white spray paint to “beachify” it a bit. It’s crude, and I won’t win any building prizes for it but…I love it!
It is great for hiding treasures in (like that porthole…and carved flower from my brother) and storing records (on the back side, you can’t see).
Coffee table…$4 for pallets from my feed mill

Did you check out how to make these pillows on Sunday? Well, they were a quick way to add color without sewing. Love!
The materials for 4 new pillows was about $15.00

Do you remember that chair I painted with Upholstery paint? I love it…but, the color was a bit too strong. I simply draped a vintage blanket over it to soften it a bit.

This corner is a favorite for Levi. He loves that chair.
I am all about whimsy and personality. Things I love. For no reason…just because.
I made the birdcage hanging there.
I bought that lamp with the coffee filter shade for dirt cheap. I was going to make one  but this one was such a great price!
A piece of burl wood I sanded down, stained, and added a Charlie Brown stripe for fun. A vintage phone is thrown in…because of its great color!!
These are all finds from long ago!

This piece of furniture is not particularly pretty. But, I love it!
It is Depression Era made from the most modpodge items you can find.
The drawers are dynamite crates, the interior drawers cheese boxes, you can find particle board, bead board, and all kinds of things. I love the history that is behind this!! And, I love every scratch and bump it has on it!
I created the pallet art above it “Nobody can be uncheered by a balloon”.
I added my  minnow bucket stuffed with silk flowers, antique camera, and cop’s light.
This little spot makes me smile!! Love the history!

This corner gallery wall I had done some time ago. I like it and didn’t want to change it.
I added Captain and it was perfect!
Katie has a vintage record player that gets a lot of use!
I included wooden shoe forms, a great lamp I found ages ago, and a simple daisy bouquet.

This wall is one of my favorite improvements.
This is Eleanor Roosevelt (previously known as Grace Kelly). She will be debuting during paint week.
She replaced the yellow dresser and does a much better job!
Hanging out with her you see some of my favorite items in my home…
Paddington Bear. Can you believe the glass case and the bear didn’t come together??
No joke…I was trying to figure out what to do with that box and doh!!

Paddington Bear, antique pulley, vintage marble run, and vintage tonka ambulance.

For art on this wall I took the directions from an antique toy set that was ruined (free with another piece) and used the super cool technique of wooden hangars to hang them up. I love love!!

This room cost me very little. The big purchase was the slipcovers.
And I am so happy with how it turned out! I hope the pictures do it justice!

Okay, could you tell what each blog (5days, 5ways…Eclectically Vintage…The DIY Showoff) inspired?

I love your room make over! That rug and those slip covers soften up the look and makes it feel so homey. Just beautiful! I chose to do the block this time because of a time constraint but I am definitely going to make your rug for my sun room make over! I’ll post pictures on my blog HearthandWhimsy.com when I get it done. Thanks so much for sharing, this has been really fun. I’m looking forward to the next events!
