my F.A.IL.

Creativity is a blessing most days. Some days it is just a plain nuisance. See, I don’t sleep the sleep of normal people. Or shop the shop of normal people. Or, buy the buy of normal people. Okay, granted…normal is relative. But, for the sake of sakes…

I sleep with ideas. I shop with ideas. I buy with ideas. Ideas don’t stop. I see something in the store and have to remember to make it. I taste a cupcake and have to remember the flavor. I see a sweater I like and have to remember to recreate it. If you see a girl about 5’2” bopping about a store with her phone taking pictures chances are it’s me. It drives my family nuts. It drives ME nuts. But, I just can’t shut it off. And thankfully I now have this place to put those ideas to good use.

But, I’m about creativity. And that should not be confused with craftiness, or skills of any sort. I’ve learned skills out of necessity. If I want what is in my head to come out in real life…I have to create it. And of course, the more I create the better I get. But, I do not have natural born talent towards detail (I hate detail!), painting (again, hate painting!), sewing (I stink…stink at sewing!), and a host of other things. But…I am naturally creative. That I know.

Maybe you aren’t a creative mind. Maybe you have skills but not the creativity? Well, we should really get together. Seriously. I’ll tell you what to make…you do it. Wouldn’t that just be a match made in heaven?

Sigh.

Anyways, I wanted to remind you that what you see on NellieBellie is usually the craft that made the cut. I think I have the ratio at 1 out of 2.5 crafts that make the cut. It used to be 1 out of 4. I’m getting better. Or just more realistic. But, here are a few that didn’t make the cut this month…

egg carton case

I had an 18 egg egg carton. It seems like it should be cut down and work for a Kindle case. It really does. I had done quite a bit of work until I just smacked myself and said “what are you doing, this is lame!”. But, I’m setting that one on the back burner. It has potential.

beads2beads

Levi made beads out of clay. They were adorable. He strung them up on a ribbon and everything. Then he had a bright idea…he wanted to paint them. Well, brilliant idea! Not if you stick them in a glass full of colored water and let the CLAY BEADS sit. They turned soggy and dissolved of course. I had him take a picture of the mess. In my sink full of dirty dishes, no less. Yes, we all have dirty dishes.

empty mug

You’ve seen them everywhere…the cute mugs personalized with Sharpies. This is one. What, you can’t see the cute design that Katie drew on? Well, you don’t say!

No joke, this wasn’t cool…Katie had made 4 personalized mugs for Christmas gifts. They were used once, washed (top rack in dishwasher) and everything started coming off. In no time at all they were empty, like they are right now. We are trying again with specialty paint. But darn, bummer, poopy-pants, golly-gee…it stinks!

waffle

You ask what this mess is?

Well…let me tell you! I had this bright idea to make sugar cookies into little waffle cookies. Great idea…no? I used bought sugar cookie dough, placed a bit on each corner and cooked. Opened it up and…sticky, giant mess!!! Did NOT work. I’m thinking it’s because I have a belgium waffle maker and not the square ones. I’m pretty sure it should work. And, would be cool. If you have a square waffle maker try it some time, I want to know!

me-silly

There is no reason that I should be sticking out my tongue at you but…sometimes it’s just healthy to be silly! It keeps you young and healthy!

There you have it…the reasons why you shouldn’t get too impressed when you see something cool on NellieBellie. There are probably 3 other projects that went to project heaven in order for the 1 to survive. They sacrificed for a good cause though!

Comments

  1. sugar cookies in a waffle maker is genius….GEEEENEEEEIUUUUUSSSS….if it worked. Dammit why didn’t it work? I love anything waffle like! Make it work Janel! Make. It. Work.

I knooowww! (whine). Doesn’t it have such potential!! I’m trying. I’ve tried pie crust, sugar cookie dough, and am thinking grilled cheese next. I am bound and determined to make something amazing with that darn waffle maker!

  2. I saw someone put the refrigerated-tube kind of cinnamon roll in the waffle maker. I was tempted to try that but the holidays are over and it is diet time, so it is on my extensive to-do-later-list.
Don’t say never on the sewing/painting either. I was pretty much just a beader/jewelry crafter but then I wanted to bead more things and I started picking up sewing. Then I wanted to make more of my own beads so I started doing more poly-clay and painting. Lately I have been talking myself out of getting a torch and supplies for fused glass beads and metal soldering. Mainly by reminding myself how many un-started projects I have on my to-try list still.

I saw the cinnamon roll ones too…those looked yummy yummy! Oh, I’ll paint and sew if needed. Just not my cup of tea. I’m sure the more I do it…the better. As with everything! Fused glass beads? That’s hard core! And impressive!

  3. We must be craft sisters — my ideas drive me BANANAS and YES – 1 out of 4 of the ideas work…that’s it :(

    • miznelliebellie says:

That is a serious compliment! I know…if only the other 3 would work. Or just 2. We would rule the craft world :) !

  4. Love it!!

  5. I thought the sides of your tongue were pierced in the photo.

I know exactly how you feel about having ideas, but not all the skills needed to back them up. Still fun though, just no close up pictures! lol

I was nodding my head in agreement the first couple of paragraphs – someone else understands me!! Who are we if we can’t learn from our imperfections though at least you tried all these projects!! I haven’t heard of the cookie dough in the waffle maker, but I’ve had the cinnamon rolls in the waffle maker and there awesome – definitely give those a try!

    • miznelliebellie says:

I’m going to have to try those rolls! I’ve heard they are yummy!! I understand you…you understand me. It’s meant to be :)

    My husband says that my music taste and my phone pictures reveal a very scary interior monologue. C;
